Waking up on our first morning in the sleepy Thai village of Pai, was the first time we we felt cold since kicking off our Southeast Asia adventure 3-months earlier in Kuala Lumpur.
Pai sits at a high elevation in a valley near the northern border with Burma and is nearly 1,000 miles north of the southern Thai islands. The thin air and northern location are a recipe for cool mornings, but that’s OK because Pai has some great coffee shops. Our favorite was a small cafe along the roadside in town called All About Coffee. Here you can get “Upside-Down Coffee” which is hot espresso poured over sweetened condensed milk. It’s like a Thai-style cortado or cafe con leche and definitely the best way to start a cool morning in Pai.
